You’ve all most likely heard the proverb which this blog has for its title today but how many of you realize where the saying originated?
In the “Fourteenth century puddings were gutsy! .... essentially, (they) were sausages - mixtures of meat, cereal, spices, and often blood, stuffed into intestines or stomach, and boiled.”[i] It took some skill and a good bit of talent, no doubt, to take those types of bits and pieces and create a tasty meal. And so no wonder the colloquialism arose that only by eating the pudding could one really tell the skill and ability of the cook. The long version of this saying is, “The proof is in the eating of the pudding.”
Almost weekly someone wants to know how what we do here at Life Benefits is different than say, what David Ramsey does. Well, I’d like remind you that the “Proof’s in the Pudding.” Please take a moment to view the attached video and see for yourself what the Dave Ramsey “pudding” consists of.
But before you do that consider some simple facts:
•Each of us today live, breath, and work in the same economy.
•You shouldn’t have to beg, borrow or blame others to become wealthy in this life.
•You do need to be:
o Responsible
o Self-disciplined
o And take action on what you’ve learned
•Then things will be different for you because of what you do and because of who you’ve become.
This means that you can take the visceral ingredients (the blood, guts, meat, cereal and spices) which our current economy consists of, and with skill and talent you can create a beautiful “pudding” of wealth which will provide you with all you need physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually, and in doing so leave a legacy for others when you’re gone. And unlike the David Ramsey’s of the world, you don’t have to exploit others by gaming in the stock market to make all this all happen.
So how exactly are we different here at Life Benefits than the Dave Ramsey’s of the world? That’s simple. At Life Benefits we teach you how to become self-sufficient and create wealth for yourself rather than teaching you to be dependent on someone else’s loss in order to produce your own gains. You don’t need to become a speculator with your life savings in order to be wealthy in this life. And you certainly don’t need to profit over someone else’s loss to create wealth because that is not really wealth at all but exploitation.
No, all you need is honesty, knowledge and self-control... all of which are missing in Dave Ramsey’s financial “pudding” as you can see in this video. Yuck, I’m glad I don’t have to eat his pudding! I’d choose poverty over such vitriol. At least I would have the wealth that comes from having a clear conscious. And that something that can’t easily be replaced once it’s destroyed.
