Years ago when my daughter was a little tyke she was adamant about food being on the other children’s faces while we were at the dinner table. She would take her napkin and wipe off their face if she noticed anything that had strayed onto their faces while they were eating. It was very cute to watch her motherliness, looking after her brothers and sisters in this fashion.
One night we were eating berry pie and she was busier than usual taking care of everybody else when my wife and I noticed how decorated her own face was from her own berry pie. We scooped her up and walked her to the closet mirror so she could take a peek at her own face. WOW! What a horrified look she gave when she saw her own face smeared with more berry pie filling than any other face she had attempted to clean up that evening.
My daughter’s actions reflect what we see today in society, especially in economics: All kinds of people attempting to wipe their neighbor’s faces but far too few self-administrators wiping off their own face.
Talk to any man or woman on the street and they can tell you exactly what should be done in Washington, the state capitol, city hall or even their neighbor’s backyard. But take a peek into their own private affairs and you will find the same basic problems existing there which are causing our national, state and local economic debacles. No wonder everybody is an expert.
The term economics comes from the Greek language and literally means “Home Managing.” That’s a pretty expressive definition. Contemplate what would happen if all the lounge chair economic umpires in our society would get their own house in order instead of complaining about what Washington is or isn’t doing? What do you think might happen? I’ll tell you what would happen. The world would be a different place.
Just look at what has happened in our own world today. It is the masses that determine which direction a society will trend regardless of which form of government those masses live under. When we begin to believe and behave like government should control our lives and usurp our God given responsibility to provide and take care of ourselves we deserve the kind of oppression that comes from that sort of “Home Managing.”
History validates the fact that when a majority of any society manages their own homes well that government is less oppressive and individual freedom is more secure. So don’t be too quick to point a finger at government… national, state or local… until you’ve mastered the art of wiping your own face off economically speaking.
Life Benefits, Inc. was founded to provide you with the tools and the coaching necessary to master the art of “Home Managing.” And we’ve made it as simple as learning to wipe off your own face at the dinner table with your napkin.
